The Craftsman 875.19844 3/8 Inch Butterfly Impact Wrench is a versatile and powerful tool designed to make fastening and loosening applications easier and more efficient for DIYers and professional mechanics. This particular model is notable for its ability to effectively address a common issue: air leakage.
The Craftsman team recognized the problem that air leaks can cause in impact wrenches, leading to decreased performance and inefficiency. In response, they developed a solution in the form of the 875.19844 3/8 Impact Wrench, which features a unique butterfly design for air inlet that helps prevent air leaks.
The butterfly design is characterized by an innovative shutter mechanism located within the tool's air inlet. This shutter seals tightly during non-use or when the tool is not delivering power to the socket, preventing compressed air from escaping. In addition, this helps to ensure that the tool remains under constant pressure when in use, resulting in improved torque and more consistent performance.
In terms of its specifications, this impact wrench boasts a maximum torque of 325 ft-lbs, which is more than enough to tackle demanding tasks. It comes with a 3/8-inch drive, making it compatible with a wide range of sockets, and runs at a maximum speed of 3,200 RPM. Its weight, at a manageable 5.6 pounds, allows for easy maneuverability, while the ergonomic handle reduces user fatigue.
The exterior of the tool is crafted with durable materials, including a cast aluminum housing and a hardened hammer mechanism. It also features a reversible rotating switch for both forward and reverse operation. This wrench comes with a 1-year limited warranty, ensuring peace of mind for the user.

**Conclusion:**The Craftsman 875.19844 3/8 inch Butterfly Impact Wrench (Leak Air version) comes with notable advantages such as high torque, 4-pole motor design, fastening versatility, and a compact size. However, it's important to consider potential downsides like reported leakage issues, weight, and vibration. If you're prioritizing power over minimal air leaks and concern about vibration, this tool might be a suitable choice. However, if you are sensitive to vibration or need superior air leak protection, you might want to consider alternative options.
**Recommendation:**If the issue of air leaks outweighs the benefits for you, I recommend looking for similar impact wrenches from other brands that prioritize minimizing or eliminating air leaks. Alternatively, you could consider purchasing a repair kit specifically designed for the Craftsman 875.19844 to mitigate the issue. Ultimately, it's crucial to evaluate your specific use case, bud-get, and personal preferences before making a purchasing decision.
Works as it should except air does leak at times depending on how you hold it from the swivel fitting that attaches to back case. It has been taken apart before for service but now leaks a small amount of air constantly through the case as marked by markers and arrows. The second model is unknown but looks incredibly identical to the Craftsman and was purchased a while back as parts unit. Both are low torque, high speed 3/8 square drive.
Both work but leak air externally. Craftsman model 875.198440 has cracked back cover. Can still be used but requires gloves or it will bother/freeze your hand. I have pointed to the exact spot with a pen as shown in photos.
Was an awesome design back in the day when working small spaces.
